In this chapter there was a holiday unscheduled, which was vey un expected by the people in the society. It was a bummer, since when theres a holiday they have no school and a day of fun. Jonas is still not taking any pills to have the feelings. he is experiencing more and seeing colors. Now that Jonas has received many good and pleasant memories, he experienced another bad one: warfare. When the giver gave him the memory, he was so scared of it and started to cry. When Jonas finds Asher and his friends on the field playing a game,` joined remembers the memory and breaks down in the middle of the field. Jonas and fiona tell him its just a game, but they don't know what Jonas knows, and probably never will. In the end of the chapter, we find out a woman is going to have twins, which his father is in charge of sending to elsewhere.

The next morning, for the first time, Jonas did not take his pill. Something within him, something that had grown there through the memories, told him to throw the pill away.
I think Jonas didn't take the pill because he wanted to experience love for himself and not just through memories. Since stirrings handle feeling Stirrings take away feelings and love, which the pills throw away. He did not want to love in sameness for the rest of his life, which is probably why he threw them out. If Jonas was me, right after I experience the memory, the next day I would go to sleep, wake up, and pretend ti take the pills right before school but take them with me and through them out so theres no evidence left in the house. When Jonas talked about "love" he was told it is a rude and inappropriate term to use. (in other terms it is a bad word and not to use in their house hold. If I were Jonas, I would have thrown them out the day I learned about love. In Chapter 12. The Giver told Jonas about the decision the community makes about Sameness...
"Our people made that choice, the choice to go to Sameness. Before my time, before the previous time, back and back and back. We relinquished color when we relinquished sunshine and did away with differences. We gained control of many things. But we had to let go of others." "We shouldn't have!" "You've come very quickly to that conclusion. It took me many years. Maybe your wisdom will come much more quickly than mine." This is meant to tell about sameness. Jonas thought people should not live in sameness, but to be unique on their own way. like living in color. In this chapter Jonas receives his very first memory: snow and sledding. The Giver easily transmits the memories by placing his hands on jones's bare back. " I started you with memories of pleasure." When he says that I think he is starting him off with an easy memory, just so his first impression on receiving memories isn't terrible or tragic. There may be good memories, and bad memories. Some maybe bad enough to give him nightmares. It then says that his previous failure told him to start out with a good memory. This probably means that he gave the previous receiver a bad memory, which probably went downhill from then. When the Giver said to Jonas it will be painful, it might mean that he can physically feel the pain, or emotionally. Hopefully when Jonas is shown a bad memory, he will handle it properly and mature enough to move past it and be able to live with the level of pain and sadness.
In chapter 10, Giver said, "I received all of the memories of the whole world, when I was selected. And here in this room, all alone, I re-experience them again and again. It is how wisdom comes. And how we shape our future.... I am so weighted with them."
I think this passage is really deep and meaningful and that the giver has held on to so many memories its hard to count. I think They chose Jonas to hold the memories now because The giver is probably getting old and overwhelmed since he has memories of people around the world. Since Jonas is the new receiver, I think he will be very mature in the next couple of moths. In chapter 9 Jonas seems the receivers 7 rules for the first time, but the one that stunned him the most is you may lie. He doesn't have a clue about other jobs rules, or if they are allowed to lie. maybe Jonas' parents have been lying his whole lie and never knew. If lying was allowed, the world would probably be more dangerous. there will be more fighting between people, more wars.If i could trust anyone, it would be myself and not lie to anyone nor myself. I hate lying because the guilt takes over my body. Lying would not be a good thing to bring to a peaceful community. If someone knew I was lying, it would not end well.
In this chapter, we see all the reasons on how Jonas got receiver. It was destiny calling. Jonas was special, courage, intelligence, integrity and wisdom. Jonas is a very organized person, which probably also contributed to the reason why he got receiver. Jonas has great qualities that will make him the best at his job.
Through the first couple chapters of "The Giver" we learn that their world is to be all equal and the same. There can be no personal preference on who likes who better. Whenever someone has something called a Stirring, they dream something about another they take pills so it means you can't pick and choose who you like best. In this book, We lean the "Council of Elders" pick your assignment, meaning whether you are child, spouse, or released, meaning killed. Jonas, The main character, is a boy who sort of sees super powers, but just doesn't notice it yet. He is almost 12, which means when he turns 12 he gets to be a part of "The ceremony of Twelves" a ceremony they have to present the incoming twelve year olds their assignment. When someone is given an assignment they have that the rest of their life until the enter the "House of the Old" Jonas is different than most kids. Everyone else's eyes are dark, and his are colored, just the same as the new baby Gabriel his father received. He was also playing catch with his friend Asher with an apple and happen to notice the apple change colors. Having asher not see, because he is nit special, Jonas thinks he is seeing something absolutely absurd, especially since they only see black/white. During the ceremony of Twelve, an Elder goes down the row, giving people their assignments, he happens to skip Jonas, which Jonas thought was unusual. Has he done something wrong? He hadn't had a clue. Finally at the end of the ceremony, The head Elder announced "I know you all are concerned that I had made a mistake." She walked on the stage and announced Jonas as "Receiver of Memory", frightening job, yet most important.
