Brady was in class until he got called into the office. While he was in the hallway people were congradulating him but he really did not kow why. His mother was waiting for him. She walked Brady to the car and sat him down, and broke the news to him that Ben died. Brady was devastated. He thought it was all his fault if he had onky gotten there five minutes ago he would have been fine.
In chapter 9, Brady went to the bay to go crabbing with his dad. Before they stepped out on the water, Brady went searching by the bay for the kayak. He kept looking all over the place, even though he thought it would be somewhere out farther in the bay. All of a sudden, Brady looked down to find his feet next to a sunken red kayak.

In these chapters we get to know a little more in Brady's life. Brady does not want to talk to anyone much and is keeping himself from others, mainly his friends Digger and JT ever since the accident, but Bradys thinking it was more than the accident. He wants to be invisible at school. Brady wants to find out more answers regarding the accident from Carl. Seeing J.T. and Digger is just about the weirdest thing ever. J.T. seems to want to ignore the fact that Brady had plans with him or that they are friends. Digger just turns around completely in the sight of Brady. Brady then finds out some disturbing news from J.T.'s sister Kate. It turns out J.T. made up an excuse to not have to hang out with Brady.
Ben did have a funeral which Brady was invited to but he decided not to go, much like he didn't attend Amanda's funeral. Brady still can't figure out why is best friends won't even talk to him. All of the sudden Brady feels an urgency to help the DiAngelos, but finds out they are no longer living together. He still wants to help out with Mrs. DiAngelo who stayed in Maryland. Sadly, when Brady goes over to the house to help Mrs. DiAngelo isn' there. Out of nowhere his father becomes upset with Brayd telling him he needs to get back to his chores and helping out more. Basically saying he needs to move past what happened and forget about it all. |
